Tag Force 4 is the first installment on the PSP that follows the 5D's set of characters in Yu-Gi-Oh. It makes a refreshing change from the last three Tag Force games which were based on the GX series, all of which were basically the same. The game includes the new story, new areas of interest and new characters and a vast collection of new cards, with over 3500 different cards now available.
The graphics are improved over the previous games, with better character and environmental detail put in, though the environments are also a lot more grey and gritty, so it's not as visually appealing as the previous games. The duel field has changed slightly, lifepoints are shown on a dial, like a speedometer. The amount of stars a monster has is also shown as a number over the card in your hand and on the field, to make things easier.
The sound is as you'd expect. Nothing spectacular but then it's not so bad for background music either.
The story is pretty much the same as the previous games- kinda lame. You go around the city, dueling people until you fill a heart, then play through their section of the story in an event. There are lots of characters that you can do this with, much like in the previous games.
The gameplay is where the game really shines. At least, if you like Yu-Gi-Oh games, which is part of the point of buying the games. As there are so many cards to collect, and so many new cards added, the gameplay just keeps getting better and better. The addition of Synchro monsters also adds a new dimension to gameplay. You can build many more deck recipes now, and enemies have more varied decks than before, though there is still the problem of 'cheating' cards and overpowered decks, coupled with extremely poor partner AI and excellent opponent draws, as with every other game. Whilst this isn't a huge deal, it does detract from the fun of the game, and if it wasn't for all the extra cards, one of the previous Tag Force games would be better as they just seemed more balanced.
In conclusion, this game is a Yu-Gi-Oh game like any other, with extra cards, more features such as Synchro summoning and the increased support from it being the newest Tag Force game make it well worth a buy if you enjoyed the previous games, or just want to get into the Yu-Gi-Oh games.
