The best game i have ever played! May 7, 2010 R. Maiorano (Cardiff, Wales) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not only is this the best game i have ever played on the PSP, i would consider this game to be one of the best of all times. The story keeps you wanting to play more and more, whilst the chilling sound effects and brilliant graphics will make you not want to put this game down at all. I have never finished a game where once the credits have come up i have felt i wanted to play again anytime soon, however with this one i just couldnt help myself. Each time you play the game and answer differently to the questions and tasks asked of you, you are guaranted a different experience. This game is unique, a must have for any type of gamer. Dont miss out on this one. 10/10!
My first Silent Hill April 1, 2010 Ms. C. Baker (Cornwall) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have never played a Silent Hill game before, though the franchise has always interested me. I bought the PSP version of 'Shattered Memories' on a saturday and had finished it by monday- I simply couldn't put it down! It was excellent. I thought the ice- ridden 'Nightmares' were very well structured, the fact that you can't fight back and that you have no option other than to run added to the atmosphere, they never failed to set me on edge! Having everything illuminated only by torchlight assisted too, even when nothing especially unnerving was going on. Never was it too hard, yet neither was it so easy that it presented no challenge.
I wasn't aware either of quite how much the game pays attention to your actions, and the 'profile' I was given at the end was alarmingly accurate, I expected it to be a lot more general!
The plot was fascinating, and I think the fact that the character you play (Harry Mason) doesn't really talk that much only adds to his intrigue, and the twist at the end certainly warrants another run-through to see if you can spot the little hints being dropped all over the place.
It never let up, either. It remained intense and poignant all the way through to the point where shouting 'helpfully' at the screen was impossible to resist! This was not helped by the music, which was frantic and unsettling in the right places and quietly eerie in others. I even shed a few tears, though I am aware that there are different versions of the ending according to how you play, so maybe that wouldn't apply to everyone. XD
It's clever, well- thought out, emotive, and highly involving and I would recommend it to anyone (Just as long as you're not too jumpy!)
I think I'm going to have to stop there, I'm itchy to play it again!
Excellent voice acting - but dreadful game play March 28, 2010 Errol Williams 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The in-game voice acting is excellent along with the script. Sadly I can not say the same about the overall gameplay.
I found this game incredibly frustrating to play. The worst part of the game is when you have to runaway from the bad guys by escaping through lots and lots of blue doors. I found the Map useless in this situation and it offered no real help to guide you to which blue door you are to go through.
My second complant with this game is the majority of your time is spent walking around with a flash light in your hand searching for clues.
I feel this game for the PSP could of been so much more and has been let down by extremely repetitive "all you do is walk around with a flash light in your hand" gameplay, average graphics and exciting moments that are almost non-existent.
This could of been a great game - but was ruined by the lazy effort by the developers at Konami.
A refrshing new style for a flagging series March 22, 2010 J. N. Bailey 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I did have my doubts over this game as I did play SH5 on the PS3 which I thought was total pants....it was way too combat heavy with cunky controls and nothing new was in it really....i also hated SH4 too for the record...
SH: Origins on the PSP I liked though, so I bought this and was pleasantly suprised...thankfully the combat has been removed and its all about the story and puzzle solving...and being scared of course....
The story is up there with the best silent hills and some of the puzzles are quite tricky...
the only downsides to this game are the Nightmare parts can be tedious and annoying, (although they are not impossible by any means....) and the replayability is not really there....although some of the choices you make probably effect some of the thing said and maybe you get different endings, this is not really enough to wan to go back and play it again straight away...
All in all a good addition to a series that was starting to become too tired and stale....
Epic Win March 8, 2010 S. Arundel (England) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Picked this game up in an airport for a night flight, one of the best PSP games I have ever played. You can put it down and pick it right back up again. The story is engrossing and the title says it all.
I also liked the interaction with objects and some of the puzzles are nice and challenging.
The only negative thing I can think of is that it sometimes felt closed in for having a map the size of a town. But.... maybe this is what made it so enjoyable, I was able to relax and understand the story of the game more.
Id recommend this to anyone who wants a nice simple challenge and likes the other silent hill games. Its a nice change to have to think whilst playing a game.
