Masochists only... August 31, 2010 rushhour66 (Hemel Hempstead, UK) I recently completed this game having played through from the start on the hardest level 'Speed King'. Quite how I managed to stick it out all the way to the end is a testament to something in the game that the developers got right - that 'one more go' feeling. For some reason I felt compelled to continue beating my head against the wall of gameplay flaws in the knowledge that at some point (sometimes after 30-40 attempts I'd get it right). So that's what's right with it - it kept me coming back for more.
As for what's wrong? Well...
The handling is so sluggish it's like trying to navigate a turd around the track (except the GT-R, but you won't get that until right at the end of the game, by which point you might have committed suicide). Because the graphics are so blurry at speed you really need to know when a corner is coming, because by the time you actually see it it'll be too late. To compound this, the AI seems intent on sticking to its line no matter the cost, meaning if you pip it to a corner it'll quite happily turn into your rear three quarter and stick you in the wall. This happens time and again, meaning that any sensation of you actually 'racing' is lost. Strangely though, it is almost impossible for you to dish out a bit of the same without causing yourself some major damage (which turns the handling from gash to undriveable). There's also the fact that you have to buy certain cars for certain races and the miserly winnings mean that you have to play some tracks over and over to earn enough to purchase them (and then play the tracks some more so you can upgrade them and become competetive). Weirdly though, you can't sell any of your old cars to speed up this process.
Overall this is a really slap-dash effort but there was something about it that kept me playing it and for that I've given it an extra star. I only really started having fun when I got the Nissan GT-R but that was probably about half an hour before I completed it so it's scant recommendation based on the time I put in.
Unless you can resist the urge to launch your PSP out of a window I would avoid at all costs.

Need for Speed: ProStreet (PSP)
I found this game very disappointing, having just came from most wanted, I thought that, being the sequel's sequel, it would be two steps better.
WRONG!
The game play is boring, and it has no bodykit or spoiler customisation. The tuned cars you see on the back of the box are pre-tuned cars that you only get on the last 4 racetracks. The only visual customisation that you have is rims, window decals, and paint, and that is basically all the customisation I can remember.
The reason I can't remember is because I spend my time re-completing Most Wanted (which you can get for a fiver in good used condition) and is not around four times worse, as the price would suggest, but three times better.
In other words, if you are thinking of buying this game on PsP, DON'T!!
Sorry if I'm going on a bit, but it's hard to sum up all the bad things in one sentence, but I can give you a general idea...
This game is completely rubbish on Psp!!
Why bother making this game! June 7, 2008 Mr. N. Birtwistle (England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is total amateur! Rubbish modeling of cars!'But oh wait the cars using NOS to go super fast' no it isn't it looks like the cars slowing down the graphics are that bad. It makes the race seem really boring! Need for speed normally good but this game OH DEAR!
Not Bad ! April 29, 2008 Gary Digby 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Good: There's a great selection of cars to choose from, Muscle (Dodge charger/ challenger, Shelby 500 and new concept 500) Super cars like your Lambs and Ford Gt and Even the Zonda to my surpise. The Graphics are relly good but the console cant keep up in places and it lags quite a bit. Maybe its Because the Fat PSP only has half the memory.
Outside of the game, there's too much use of basic colours and doesnt look that great. Theres a good selection of Music on it as like most NFS games.
My Bads: Its not your normal meyham round the streets, its race track all the way. Some levels are quite fun but most are pretty dull. I dont get frustrated with games but with this i do, Alot. You go slightly off the road (onto the grass) and your speed reduces drasticly, and even when Powering NOS it still takes alot of speed off. Also, if you scrape a barrer on a corner, the car sticks to it and wont move off it unless using loads of breaking, resulting in your car damaged and traction pushes you to one side for the rest of the race. The damage is good because its more relistic, its bad because one slightly fast corner and you have to deal with the car for the rest of the rage.
Some races take lots of attempts to complete, I must admit I do like a challenge but sometimes its too much.
Overall, A quite good game but If i had the choice to buy this or Carbon, I think id go with carbon. There is no story line in Pro Street, this doesnt bother me because i usaully dont care for the story and just wana play.
Not that great of a game... April 11, 2008 Nikolaos Giannakakis 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Need for Speed Pro Street may be a game with good graphics, however, it is very easy to lose interest in the game because there is no storyline. In relation to the older need for speed (Need for Speed: Underground 2), this game cannot even compare. So would NOT recommend it...
