Product Description

Need for Speed SHIFT is an all-new simulation racing IP that combines the true drivers experience with real-world physics, pixel-perfect car models, and a wide range of authentic race tracks. Need for Speed SHIFT takes players in a different direction to create a simulation experience that replicates the true feeling of driving high-end performance cars. Players are thrust into the loud, visceral, intense, athletic experience of racing a car on the edge of control from the drivers perspective through the combination of perception based G-forces, the hyper reality of the cockpit view, and the brutal experience of a first person crash dynamic. Need for Speed SHIFT features an accurate, accessible physics-based driving model that allows you to feel every impact, every change of track surface and every last bit of grip as you push yourself to the edge.

Need for Speed SHIFT is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios in collaboration with Black Box and senior vice president Patrick Soderlund at EA Games Europe. Slightly Mad Studios includes developers and designers that worked on the critically acclaimed games GT Legends and GTR 2.

  • True Driver's Experience A variety of visual cues delivers the true driver's experience including a three-dimensional HUD that mimics driver head movement, inertia and G-forces. The depth of field also adjusts based on the speed of the car
  • So when the car is travelling at high speeds the perspective will shift to the distance putting the car/cockpit out of focus
  • Enhanced AI A sophisticated AI system will mean that your races are more exciting than ever before. AI opponents will react and perform based on the player's aggression and overall driving skill thus creating race experiences for all skill sets
  • Dynamic Crash Effect - When the player hits a static object or opponent car, the player will feel like they are

4 out of 5 stars Need For Speed: Shift   July 1, 2010
Victor Boyd
The crashes were good, the races were hard to win and there were some good cars competing.
The graphics could have been sharper.

Unlike many previous NFS games, "SHIFT" has certain aspects which make it both fun to play, sometimes challenging, and something that someone could play for hours on end without getting too bored. There are many exciting cars to drive in SHIFT, including the Koenigsegg CCX, the Lanborghini Murcielago, and Gallardo, the Audi R8, Shelby GT500, the Bugatti Veyron and the BMW M3 GT2. Each has its own characteristic making it better or just different to other cars on the game, adding a more enjoyable effect as you try to unlock these high class cars. Many previous NFS games, such as CARBON and Most Wanted, customisation of your own cars went further than it should and even the ride height could be changed to whatever height you wanted and the windows could be tinted to whatever colour you liked. SHIFT is more different though allowing cars only to be customised once a certain number of races have been completed however it does not allow you too change the engine capacity for example once the tuning modification has been unlocked. One thing it does allow you to change though is the body kit. Once this modification has been unlocked, you are shown an image of the kit design and can choose whether to have it or not just by pressing the square button. All in all, Shift is certainly one of the best games to be featured on the PSP, I think maybe even on par with the famous Gran Tourismo.

5 out of 5 stars Racing Heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   May 7, 2010

This game is perfect for all you that like racing games. good for on the go use. can be challenging at times but that's what makes it fun. easy to get use to.

2 out of 5 stars Unimpressive   April 21, 2010

This game is quite unlike the previous in the series. It involves only racing through the cordoned-off streets of a few major cities. And several problems. The rewards seem inconsistent - although every parameter in my list now tells me I can alter the livery, this option is still greyed out when I try to do so. We are told to choose the right car for the race but all too often the car is not changeable at all. All cars are alarmingly inclined to 'drift', i.e. slide all over the road at the slightest provocation and which seems frequently to an extent that defies the laws of kinetic and centrifugal forces.

Unfortunately the game is completely ruined by the creators' obsession with this 'drift'. It has its uses of course, in the right location, but the set-piece races that comprise only drifting are nigh impossible in the narrow streets, especially given the unlikely location of some of the drift-points - on almost straight stretches of road that are perfectly drivable without sliding.

It's just plain boring to be forced through these tests, which are far harder than the actual races - these are, if anything, too easy. I guess I could eventually pass my latest drifting race (you guessed I was stuck, right?), but with the almost certainty of further and more unrealistic drift-tests, I just can't be bothered.

Perhaps they meant to call it 'Need for Speed: Drift'

HTH.
