2 out of 5 stars A bit broken in places   November 24, 2008
Heward Kay (Hampshire UK)
This is a good attempt at a golf franchise for the Wii, but it is far from perfect. Lots of modes, and good attention to character customisation cannot save it from being a bit disappointing. It becomes clear as you progress, that EA got to the point where they felt "this'll do for now, lets get it on the shelves before we have to start work on Tiger Woods PGA tour 10". Putting is a major weak point, and the Wiimote is not sensitive enough to cope with small movements. All the putt previews and help indicators won't stop you from smacking the ball across the other side of the green, again and again.

A major flaw comes when you score a hole-in-one. Your character runs around the green celebrating like a lunatic, the crowd goes wild, a hole in one sign flashes up, and your fellow players congratulate you on a great shot. However, when you watch the replay, the ball bounces over the hole, and you are left to play the ball from the other side of the green. It's as if the game punishes you for wanting to relive your greatest moment. At least I had witnesses to this bug.

Like most Wii games, it is best played with a crowd, then at least everybody can join in with the frustration and moaning

4 out of 5 stars Good but not great   November 17, 2008

Tiger Woods 09 is basically a decent all round game. It feels as though you are playing golf. The graphics (for the Wii) are pretty good. You can create your own golfer, jump straight into the game and play as you try to improve your own created player. Where the game does fall down is in the putting. Yes it can be very frustrating, too many people have commented on it for it not to be the case. The constant changing of putter lengths, the continous lipping out or even worse going straight over the hole turning a round of 63 into a 68 can become very annoying, but unfortunately that is just the way it is and yes you can get used to it. All in all a good game that could have, should have been better.

This game is absolutely brilliant and I would recommend it to anyone. By far the best Wii game that I have played. Don't understand all the fuss about the putting - it seems fine to me. Some of the earlier negative comments nearly put me off buying this game, but so glad that they didn't.

3 out of 5 stars The good and the bad   September 30, 2008

Having played 08 and loved it i eagerly bought 09 and i have mixed feelings about it, if you haven't played 08 then you will probably love this as after you have practised a while and play it is a good game but some decisions baffle me as to why things have changed. They have improved the graphics slightly and the fade draw control is good as is the overview of the shot when you press A it stays on the overview rather than having to keep your finger on A as in 08.
The two biggest irritants are firstly the commentary that is just awful Sam Torrence just sounds bored and enough to send you to sleep the commentaters on 08 were far better.
Then we come to the putting, yes you can get used to it but you are using a power meter and different settings re the length of the putt whereas in 08 it is as near putting on a real green that you can get, you are using your own judgement as to how to read the green and the power to use.
Hopefully in the next edition they will sort these irritants out but i shall hold fire next time before buying and i shall also read a lot of reviews before parting with my hard earned cash.

4 out of 5 stars Fun but be careful!   September 18, 2008

Got this game on the release date and played for about an hour- great fun. However woke up the next day with the biggest pain in the neck I have ever had. Couldnt sleep for two day and now, five days later, it still hurts. Be careful!
