Awesome July 22, 2008 Mr. Y. Saeed (Birmingham, UK) Bought this game and have been hooked since. As well as online, there is also offline game play in case if you don't want to play with others via the internet. Graphics wise, it's amazing. If you have a powerful spec machine, play it at high res with maximum detail. Both the normal and collector edition contain the Unreal editor which I wanted to learn to create my own maps. Main reason for buying the collector edition is that they include video tutorials to teach you the basics. The collector edition also comes in a tin box with an art book. To tell you the truth, it's nothing major. I've seen much better collector versions than this. If you're into the game and do not want to learn about the editor then get the normal version.
Best UT so far? Well.. January 21, 2008 R. Savory (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
On a bit of a whim I popped into my local games shop and bought five games, two for the PC and three PS3 games. Installed them all and within 1/2 hour I'd abandoned the rest and continued playing Unreal Tournament 3 for the rest of the day. Not that I'm saying it's not without faults - Not nearly enough maps, graphics could be a little better, and no spectator mode (that I can find), and in particular no new type of tournament - but it is still going to be a favourite. UT2004 was the complete package in many ways, but UT3 is bang up to date, funkier and with a couple of nice additions to character design and the training "plot" that is more of a linear story than just a series of maps to play in. You will need a beast of a machine to see it at its best. I've given it 4 not 5 stars simply because there could have been more to make this the "ultimate" game, but make no bones about it, this is a great game. Halo.. pah. Quake.. nah. UT3.. absolutely.
This Game is Unfinished January 19, 2008 Imperial Jade (United Kingdom) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was greatly disappointed with this game (I didn't buy it from Amazon). It's basically unfinished. It's like UT 2003, only worse. UT 2003 had great potential, but where were the maps? With UT3, they forgot to write the code behind the customisation menus. Whenever I get a new game, rather than start playing immediately, I go into the setup to specify my chosen screen resolution, graphic detail, mouse behaviour, action keys, etc. With UT3, the menus exist, but they don't work. I can't define the keys I'm used to playing with, I can't can't turn the sound down from its deafening full volume and other irritating stuff like that. Worse, the few things you can change, the game doesn't save for next time. When you next start the game, you have to go through all that again. I can't play at full volume as I use headphones, so I haven't played it more than a few minutes. I've actually gone back to playing UT 2004 and I'm rather enjoying that, wondering what UT3 has to offer that UT 2004 doesn't. So there you have it: it's unfinished. Wait for UT 2008, or whatever they call the finished version. It must be worth a refund, surely.
Doesn't disappoint - High Adreneline Game December 2, 2007 A. K. Evans (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been playing the unreal tournament games from the beginning and have been counting down the release of UT2007 since back in 2005 when it was announced. After the release date was put back (I think 4 times in the last year) so that they could make the game as perfect as they could, I was extremely excited when it finally arrived. First off, the metal case looks beautiful, the artwork book is even more beautiful with twice the amount of art in it as you'll find in the halo mini-book (if you brought the spec. ed. halo game). After installing the game, I was disappointed to find that my computer only just runs at the minimum spec for the game and the graphics are rather blotchy but that's due to my computer, not the game. I played it later on my dad's PC and it really did look excellent. Take note that to get this game to look its best, you will need a good PC. Since I got it, I've been playing it non-stop, working through the campaign and the instant action battles. The only thing I have noticed is how quickly you learn all of the maps, there just aren't enough, but with the Collectors edition you don't need to worry, there's 20 hours of unreal engine 3 toolset tutorials to help you make your own mods for the game. I was pleased to see the classic Coret map has returned from one of the very first Unreal Tournament games and when you look at this map you can see how far the franchise has really come. The Deimos space station (another of my favourites) is back as well but don't think that the game is just old maps remodelled and given a thick coat of make-up; there are a number of maps that are instant classics, such as Necropolis, Hydrosis and Gateway, which involves a number of portals between different parts of the world. I haven't played this game online very much (due to the fact there are psycho's on there that slaughter everybody) but when I have had even teamed matches they have been very good. The campaign can also be played online, much like gears of war, with up to 4 players. As with any new game, it has its flaws and probably more than most others, but the UT3 community has been reassured that a patch is on the way and they're testing it as I write this. Overall, an excellent game that you will be able to revisit again and again, with some of the best graphics on the market. I'd recommend this game to anyone that is into fact paced first-person shooters. Halo 3 had the most hype this year for being the best game of the year, but I think this game deserves at least 2nd place if not higher!
Great experience - poor packaging. November 23, 2007 P. White (Cambridge, United Kingdom) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
UT3 is good but seriously flawed at the moment. It's full of bugs, crashed during the settings section initially (character creation) and crashed with a non GPU (ie code) related error a moment ago. The GUI is appalling. I'd heard it was poor but it looks like it's been done as a placeholder before the designers get near it and by a junior developer! The game is occasionally jerky and clunky BUT it has fantastic potential. It's very involving, far more immersive than the previous version and looks good. Give it a patch or two and it'll be amazing! My review also concerns the packaging of the so called 'Special Edition'. A cheaper metal box would be hard to imagine. I've had poor quality biscuits in more metal! Also my box had a large scratch on the front, right over the graphics and courtesy of the factory because it was still shrink wrapped. Very poor quality control indeed! Amazon will be replacing it forthwith (please). Inside the box is a small hard covered book (so small I missed it when first I looked) containing artwork. It's nice but nothing 'special'. You also get a DVD with guides to the level editor (would you not look at an online guide?) and a history of UT. The latter might be fun but I've not had a chance to view it yet. I'm tempted to say get the non 'special' edition.
