3 out of 5 stars OK but can get boring   August 13, 2008
LFC4EVER (GR)
At first this game is fun to play, an average game that is good for about a week but after that it gets so boring doing the same thing over and over again watchin nothing happen when a game is being played.

Average game but doesnt last the distance. Only buy it if you have patience.

Having just bought a PSP and being an almost obsessive fan of the FM series since the beginning, I naturally picked this up as soon as I could for those times when I couldn't get near a PC and have to say I'm extremely dissapointed. Now I understand this is a stripped down version (hence the name FM2008 handheld) but unfortunately they've also stripped out the soul. The biggest failing has to be the tactics section which are basic to say the least, being such an important part of the FM series I would have thought they would have tried to keep as much as possible but they haven't. The transfer system is as awful as other reviewers have said and then some and the navigation of the menus, especially the players screens is terrible. Having said that, this would be an excellent game if you havent played the PC version and are unfamiliar with the concept. For me though, it is way too shallow and has more in common with those 3 games you can get for your mobile. I shall be trading this in at the earliest opportunity and never looking back. Hugely, hugely dissapointing.

I may have given it 5 stars but i don't think it's changed enough since last year, i only got it as it was 15 and it had the new players, still good if you enjoy them but nothing special.

1 out of 5 stars They've ruined it   January 12, 2008

I got the last Football Manager on the PSP and it was good (even though you could only select one nation then, why thats a big deal I don't know?) but this one is rubbish and I'll tell you why, In the last game if you took over a lower league club like I did with Forest you've got to wheel n deal and try to get players in from wherever you can I was loaning players from as far away as Jamaica and even though you couldn't buy all the players from the Jamaican League you could still buy some (the same applies to Argentina and other dodgy leagues). But in this the 1st thing I noticed is when you go to player search the vast majority of players were based in england and that was quite annoying cos I usually go for dodgy foreigners under the age of 21 so you can build them up. So after that I looked at Lyon who are a proper team in the Champions League and everything and there was only 3 players that I could sign. THREE!!!!! and Hatem Ben Arfa wasn't even in their squad who is a top player I signed in the last game, which is pathetic. There's a couple of little tweks they've done which look alright like reserve squads etc. But it's not worth paying 20 quid for you might as well just keep the old one and start a new career with Oxford or something have a proper challenge.

Anyway don't buy it, it's pony.

5 out of 5 stars A welcome improvement   January 11, 2008

Ok so this is a scaled down version of the PC game. So what? it is brilliant. The new features added have enhanced the game and I once again find my life draining away much to the annoyance of the missus. I have been buying FM or before that champ for over ten years and this is a very good version compared to all the rest, it is certainly the best PSP version. Allowing tactics to be adjusted is long overdue to be included and I now find myself playing 2-4-1-3. Player interaction is simple but again a welcome improvement. For some reason Goran Pandev is a goal machine but hey these things happen. My only small problem would be that I do need to stop every now and again so that my eyes do not bleed as the new skin is quite painful. Well done SI, the best complement I can think of is my missus hates you.
