Amazon.co.uk Review
While Electronic Arts' other sports games may be locked in a deadly rivalry with their competitors there really hasn't been a golf sim to go head-to-head with Tiger Woods for years. There doesn't seem to be too much laurel sitting going on though, especially since this is, like many Electronic Arts games this year, the first time the game has been designed specifically with the next generation of consoles in mind. Naturally that means the most realistic graphics yet, not only for the course itself but also for Tiger and the other real-world golfers. Their faces and expressions look totally life-like and on the PS3 and 360 you can use a webcam or digital camera to import your own face and graft it to your own in-game custom golfer. In terms of gameplay the major new feature is the concept of "shot confidence" which monitors your performance through your whole career, adding an extra degree of tension to difficult shots but also allowing you to examine your game in detail to find out where you're going right and wrong. After criticisms that last year's game was a bit thin on options this new game has the greatest number of courses ever including Westchester Country Club, TPC Boston, Cog Hill and East Lake. There's also the expanded GamerNet mode which acts like a sort of YouTube just for the game, allowing you post in-game videos and challenge other people to a game in an online world dedicated to nothing but golf. Decent game but can be frustrating August 13, 2008 LFC4EVER (GR) This is a fun addictive game to play. Its the first PGA Tour iv bought for PSP and i think its quite good. Its very well organised with the layout and the gameplay. All shots can be hit;drive, full iron, chip, wedge, pitch and put. It fells great when you hit a good drive down the middle of the fairway or chip it in or even a hole in one (done it before!). Sometimes though if you move the joy stick just a little to the left or a little to the right on your shot, the ball will fly well of target. This is the only downfall to the game. Overall this game is fun to play for a few hours but can be frustrating at times.
CRASH ALERT !! February 17, 2008 Marc Elmes 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Everything was going swimmingly until I got to the second year in the career mode. Then the game decided to crash again and again midway through the loading phase (after I had just completed a round of golf.) Having done some search engine research, it appears that I am not the first, second, or tenth person to encounter this crashing on the psp (by the way, my research shows that its not just the psp which is having this problem.) All in all, I am thoroughly disappointed
Good Entertainment January 9, 2008 S. Smith (Birmingham, UK) Bought this game at the airport to pass the time of my flights....did the job perfectly. Admittedly i have not played a golf game since the megadrive (!) but really found this enjoyable, addictive & good fun. Would reccommend to anybody.
quite boring October 25, 2007 Mr. M. Green (Huddersfield ,England) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
i bought this game the day it came out and expected it to be fun and as good as the playstation versions. By the way do you think that ea sports should bring back the rivals mode because i think that was a really good and better mode than pga season tour. the game itself gets boring after about a week and i lost all interest.
Tiger Woods 08... October 9, 2007 Steven McCue (Glenrothes,Scotland) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Just received my copy of the game after having read umpteen previews of it. I currently have the 07 edition and find it utterly adictive and can't really fault it too much. I have read so many reviews of EA Sports titles that suggest if you have an earlier edition, don't waste money on the new one.At least in the golf version, you get new courses so you may well find that worth the outlay. My arguments 'Against' the 08 version(if you have 07)is the 'ALL NEW' Confidence meter which tracks your play.Well let's face it,if you've mastered the 07 version, your confidence should be pretty high from the minute you switch-on.I switched this off as it becomes annoying after not too long.My other problem is I switched-on and like we all do,went for 'Quick-Play'.Tried a new course using Annika Sorenstam and shot an -18,56! I've only just started getting into the lower 60's on the 07 version,so I expected more of a 'challenge',especially on a new course and with a new character.I appreciate the 'Career Mode' will not be so simple, but I have tended to find that once you have mastered this once, you usually can't be bothered going through it all again. In summary then,if you have 07 then 30 buys you new courses. The 'Confidence Meter' will be ok to NEW users, but annoying to existing 07 users.
