Fun but too many niggles May 6, 2008 The Fault Crazy Taxi: Fair Wars is a game you would think is highly suited to PSP. It's got quick pick up and play gameplay perfectly suited to gaming on the go and PSP has shown itself to be more than adequate for racing games. On the Fare Wars disc you get both Crazy Taxi and Crazy Taxi 2 with the same familiar setup as in the arcades. The aim of the game is to pick up a passenger and get them to their destination as quickly as possible whilst racing against the clock, earning extra money for driving as crazy as you can. Repeat this process until the timer has reached zero. It's a simple premise that worked well in the arcades and was translated to Dreamcast successfully enough. The PSP conversion enables you to choose to play as in the arcades or have either 3, 5 or 10 minute sessions. There are also several minigames that test your driving skills - one or two are reasonably fun but most are dull and/or frustrating. The conversion isn't too hot either - it feels hastily put together. The main issue is with the controls, which as a reviewer has already stated, occasionally veers off to the right. It happens to me when I'm trying to steer left with the anlog nub. And it definitely isn't my PSP at fault as I don't have any issues with any other game I have ever played on it. The control setup is different to most other racing games and also takes some time getting used to. The controls are generally very innacurate too - now obviously realism isn't high on the agenda for this game but you never feel in full control of the car. The sound also cuts out sometimes; when the commentator is speaking he often gets cut off abruptly before finishing his sentence. Otherwise this is a somewhat fun game if extremely shallow. You might pick up and play it for a week or so but I think after that it will just be left to collect dust. A disappointing conversion of a classic arcade game (the original is the only true classic - I'm less keen on Crazy Taxi 2).

just bought a psp and got this game free,i can see why.The excitement last for 15mins,(if you leave it on pause for ten).Very dull game with no real goal.

Wow this is an awful conversion of a great game. What a shame too as this has some nice features (like being able to listen to your own music whilst playing) and the menus are great. The main problem is controlling the taxi. The taxi occasionally veers off to the right and you never quite feel you are in full control. This is one wasted opportunity...
