5 out of 5 stars Wow, what a game!!!   May 18, 2008
CornyO
Now this is serious stuff. This game is absolutely brilliant with so many great cars to drive, from Italian Supercars (sadly no Ferraris though) to Classic Musclecars.

Now don't be put off by people stating the analogue stick is impossible to use; it just takes time to get used to and you'll soon become Stick King. You may get a rather sore left thumb though!

The handling is very realistic, the power, speed and acceleration is all spot on. Every car is different. The only poor point is the lack of guidance of the manual, but go to various websites if you get stuck. In other ways it's fun to find out for yourselves what you need to do to unlock all those great driving experiences. One of the best features is going on-line where you can race anyone in the world by either challanging anyone direct (flash your lights twice) or go to a racing lobby and choose set races. The PSP does sometimes have trouble keeping up with the graphics but the 2000 is much better.

Now a serious point though: this game is so addictive I had only 4 or 5 hours sleep before getting up for work! I have spent around 35 hours play on this game and I still haven't quite finished it ( 2 more to go which seem impossible!) Warn your family before you start play or lock yourself in a room to play, and play and play. Fantastic. Have fun. Go get it.

5 out of 5 stars No Match on PSP   April 15, 2008

Test Drive is the best car game out on PSP by a long way. The graphics are incredably realistic and the car engines perfectly match their partners in the real world. There are over 70 top brands of car to choose from and some of the best in each brand. Join clubs and race to become the president of each club which is harder than it sounds with only 7 people to beat but the AI units are clever and on the hardest levels it takes skill to beat them even if you have better car. One of the great points in the game though, is that there is a clear difference between the cars. I've noticed in some car games recently that speed is the only difference between the top sports car and the bottom of the range family drive. Test Drive have changed all that and handling, braking and speed are all factors that decide the final quality of a car; this is one game where the Saturn sky roadster can't finish anywherwe near the Ferrari! ONe of the best factorsd in the game is the freedom to drive around and explore a whole island. On most other games you can explore but you get stopped by roadbloacks or you simply cant drive down a road. The fact that the game is set on an island means that it is easier to accept that you cant go past the limits, the water is a clever barrier. The motor ways are also fun as it is easy to test the speed of your cars with the easy, straight roads and a quick way to get beween the many towns to explore. There are only two bad points to the game; the police and the completion of the game. The police are honestly pathetic. There are no roadblocks like on xbox and although it is satisfying at first when the police dissappear of the map it gets borig after a while. There is no thrill or adrenalind rush when the police are three miles behind you and losing ground all the time. The completion of the game is also pathetic. You have all the cars, all the houses you have gold in every race and you are president of every club then what? Nothing happens and the only thing to do is try and beat your best time on all the races.
Despite having a boring ending it is a gripping and fun game with great racing and great ideas like the housing and the clubs. The graphics and noises and movement of the cars are unbeatable and the island is a cunning setting. It is a fantastic car game and a classic that is simply the best ever made and will stick with that title for years to come!

5 out of 5 stars Great free-roaming simulator   January 4, 2008

I kicked off my PSP career with Sega Rally but soon found it to be very 2-dimensional and limiting. I am so pleased to have moved on to Test Drive Unlimited. I just love the free-roaming aspect of this game; pick a point on the island and have the GPS navigate you there, or just explore the roads yourself. Either way, you will find yourself tearing down valleys, along freeways, through tunnels and along the beachfront in Honolulu. Occasionally going off the side of the road gives a rather exciting tumble down a ravine (shame there is no lasting damage to the car).

This game may not offer the same technical experience as other motor racing games, but it certainly provides a great environment to drive freely in a stunning environment without being confined to a racetrack.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money   December 29, 2007

Dear oh dear. After playing my first racing game to the death on my psp, which is the one and only Ridge Racer, I was looking for a new racing game to test my driving skills. So off I go to Amazon and find a game with a very high rating called Test Drive unlimited. It beggars belief why this has such a high rating. I found it awful. Maybe on another platform it might be playable, but not on the psp. The worst feature in the game is the control settings. There is only one setting to steer the car, and that is with the analog stick, which is damn near impossible to steer the car with. Why you can't use the directional buttons as a choice for steering the car, like you can with Ridge Racer, is a big mistake.
The graphics were nothing to shout about either. No, I'm sorry, but if you are a fan of Ridge Racer, do not waste your money on this game.

5 out of 5 stars Gran Turismo for PSP   August 14, 2007

Awesome game, if you are into cars at all this will be right up your street. Ample challenge for all abilities with endless challenges, club races and general roaming around. Good mix of cars, all interesting ones no pap, your first choice is between a 350z, Alfa GT or a Mustang! Cars from a fair age range from 60's classics like Bond's DB4 and the AC Cobra through Countach's , XJ220's, McClaren F1's right up to new models and concepts like the Alfa 8C. You can also upgrade to various levels to give you the edge. Easily the best driving game on the PSP, makes NFS look dull.
