This game is one of the best games you will find on the psp, along with syphon filter:dark mirror, tekken dark ressurection and killzone liberation. It is not to hard but certainly chalenging enough. Its lush blend of of exotic environments range from jungles to fish factorys! There are 4 different vehicles you can use in different situations. For instance on the first level you can use your own private scooter to travel to your HQ and teleport to a very good jungle level where you can go where ever you want spraying bug repellent everywhere. As for wepons, you start off with a bug squatter but you will soon get a bug spray gun which can then be used once upgraded as a jetpack, flamethrower and a projectile launcher. This game has lots of veriety and if you like the original jak and daxter or jak 2, jak 3 or rachet and clank ect. you will love this game.

5 out of 5 stars Good fun platformer   February 9, 2007

Good graphics, good level design, lots of fun. I never owned a PS2 so I haven't played any of the previous Jax and Daxter games. Judged on it's own merits this is a really good 3d platformer. Graphics are good, levels are well paced, not too hard, not too easy. The whole package is engaging enough to play from start to finish and enjoy the whole experience.

Daxter is a game set in Haven City, between the end of Jak 1 and beginning of Jak 2. You play as an Ottsel, called Daxter, who is part of a Pest/Bug Control Company. You are assigned to different missions, each in a different area of Haven City where you get to ride your Hoverbike. This is a nice touch as you get to explore Haven City and get familiar with the game. There are several mini-games which are unlocked by collecting precursor orbs. These games are fun but mostly the same, but nonetheless, they provide a change in gameplay. The mini-games are in the style of films etc and my personal favourites are the Matrix level and Braveheart level. Completing mini-games by getting high scores, improves Daxter's health. There is also a very nice Bug Combat mode where you play as different bugs in a rock, paper, scissors type game. In this mode you take it in turns to select your move, Defend, Melee or Range. Your success largely depends on luck but you can improve your bugs stats by collecting vials in the missions. Once you've trained your bug, you can even face your mates, using the PSP's wireless.

Daxter provides the player with fresh and sharp graphics. The visual and auditory aspects of the game are top notch, the voices are great and there is nothing to fault. The gameplay is fun but most of all playable. It's easy to pick up but it still provides a challenge. This game is pretty substabtial and the main story will knock up a good 10-20 hours depending on how good you are. There is bug combat and mini-games but why didn't this game get the full 5 stars? The game loses appeal quite quickly because the gameplay in the main story hasn't got much variety. The combat isn't engaging enough to make you want to keep on playing constantly. Saying that, the game feels fresh if you haven't played it in a few weeks.

In all, this game is top notch on all fronts and there are several nice features that will help you stack up the hours. If you're a platformer fan, this is probably the best on PSP.
