It's Lego AND It's Star Wars April 8, 2008 S. Brockbank (Manchester) A few years ago, a mate of mine raved to me about Lego Star Wars I on the PS2, telling me I had to buy it, it was amazing etc etc. It wasn't I didn't believe him, it's just I was busy playing Vice City or something and in the end, forgot about it.
Wind forward to a couple of Christmas's ago, and, as you always get rubbish presents when you're older, I got myself a copy of Lego Star Wars II on the PS2. I spent virtually the whole of the Xmas break glued to it, collecting everything I could, trying to complete all the extras, spending every spare moment, controller in hand.
I liked it so much, when I got myself a PSP, I also got myself a copy of this on the PSP and, it's just as good, if not better.
You play through all three of the original films, 6 levels per film, making 18 all together. Most of them are character based where you wander about, shooting things, blowing things up, building things, solving puzzles and generally having a blast. You play as a small handful of characters and can switch between them to do different tasks (R2D2 can open special "droid" doors, Obi Wan can use the Force for example).
Some are vehicle based where you drive or fly round doing the same thing, personally I'm not keen on these ones but, horses for courses I suppose.
Once you finish a level in "story mode", you can replay it in "free play", but as any combination of characters you like - want to be Darth Vader? You can be (once you unlock him later in the game). A lot of the characters have special powers and can access areas others can't, opening up new bits of the game.
In each level there are 10 hidden items to find and a bonus red brick - you collect these to unlock extras such as special weapons, extra damage and other goodies.
But there's still more to keep you coming back and replaying again and again and again. One of my fave bits is to build your own character with unique abilities - I love my custom Luke with special "dark force" powers.
"Why", as my girlfiend continually asks when I'm playing this, "are you playing a game for kids?"
"Because it's Lego AND it's Star Wars" I answer.
She just looks at me blankly.
I think that sums it up nicely - buy it. Now. Twice, in case one copy gets damaged.
FUN! March 7, 2008 Stuart Johnston (UK) i have quite a few various consoles and games and this is one of the best i have played. it is excellent yet infuriating when trying to find all of the minikits...please can someone show me a review so that i can find them all!!!
the only thing that is wrong with this game is how long it takes to load.....*yawn*......ages!!!
but a great game non the less........
Wow. Even better than the ps2 versian. December 30, 2007 D. Page I bought this game when i got my psp straight away. I played lego star wars 2 on my friends ps2 and enjoyed it a lot. So i bought it and i'm pleased i did. It's funny, challenging and has more lightsaber action than ever! The reason it's better than the ps2 version is because it has a new challenge mode made exclusively for the PSP. More movies and you can unlock the characters from the first 3 films! if you have a Psp or are getting one, get this game. It's better than it sounds!
a good polished game... August 18, 2007 S. Hazell (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
the one point i would count against it is the lack of short levels. When I am traveling short distances I want a quick good slashy level similar to the Genosis one in the previous game, the 3 boss levels from the new trilogy fill that gap slightly although I have played them to death now, maybe i should stop whining and just use the sleep mode to cut up the (very good) longer levels.
