5 out of 5 stars Own and love...   February 1, 2008

the game reviews in the uk and us have been bad ones, but i am not one to follow suit. the look of this game is amazing and i am also loving the depth.

brief description: you play an up and coming monster hunter and to advance, you must gather items, farm and slay monsters! then with the items collected from those quests you use to upgrade your armour and weapons and take on bigger and harder monsters...

the idea in itself is one of the reasons why i lose interest in MMORPG's and i have played so many of them for years from eq1 to wow and beyond. but there is something more to it than doing these things over and over, the combat is different but fun, you have to time your attacks or hit the floor but as you grasp the timings its nothing but joy.

people complain about the load times but i dont seem to notice.

things people look over - the music: throw on some headphones with this game and listen to it properly, makes the game seem more than just a handheld game... (if you can understand that)

i agree this game isnt for everyone but if you like harvest moon, think of it like an adult version of that... with wyvern's (dragons)

5 out of 5 stars Wireless play is legendary   January 17, 2007

After reading the manual several times i finally sat down and started playing. To be honest the controls and camera angles are hard to get used to and it's very hard to work out which monster gives you which material, but once everything is clear in your head the game is amazingly enjoyable. Once you have a nice weapon and some good armour you can go head on with just about any monster and stand a fighting chance.

As for the wireless play mode with a friend, it becomes a frantic dash to find the monster/item and cooperation is the key. By combing a strong offence with someone to back you up, impossible challenges become so much more possible. It was so much fun when me and my friend took down the blasted Gypceros and the Yian Kut-Ku and i'm sure we will kill it many more times.

All in all it's a great game with lots of play time in it. It takes a while to get used to but it's well worth it.

4 out of 5 stars why not 5 stars ?   October 25, 2006

i bought this game thinking it would be fun and last forever. my first thought was if you havnt played the ps2 or ps1 version [which i havnt] learning all the controls is quiet tricky. there is a good range of weapons for everyones needs from sword and shield to lances and even a range of crossbows. but to make the weapons good it takes ages collecting materials which if you dont know where to look your stuck.

but once you have sorted yourself out with good swords and good armour the game becomes more exiting as you fight bigger enemies. the only downside is its practically impossible. you have to be a skilled and experienced player to be good at this game otherwise youll never get anywhere. the best feature is the online game-play. you can always re-do quests which means youll never get bored.

unfortunately i did get bored because i came across a mission where killing several wiverns proved impossible and i got stuck. but if you do get bored you can just create another charector with a different weapon and different armour.

i would suggest bying this game if your up for a challenge. the graphics are highly detailed and fairly perfect with the gameplay good and there are no glitches ive come across. so good luck with monster hunter freedom !!!

i think this is the best game iv played on PSP so far...as all the guys below me said, if you are looking for a quick bit of fun to finish off in a week or two, this game isn't for you. it has a highly online taste to it, and has over a hundred and somethign missions. its brilliant that you can play wiresless with ur mates, which makes some of the tougher levels alot--ALOT--easier, but still not easy. yes, this game is hard, yes, this game takes time, and YES, buy this game now! :)

well , its a good game , im not goin against that , its just that to get the rewards of this game you need to put in the time . it gets insanly hard halfway through and its become less fun for me because i cant progress.to carry on , you need to keep redoing missions so that you can get parts to make better stuff.
so basically , if you've got time to spare and patience then this is a good game for you . but if like me , u just like a quick bit of fun , nothing to time consuming then i would advise staying away from this.
ps.beware of monster hunter players on gamefaqs , they dont like noobs.
