It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of gum August 7, 2007 Lando Malak (Sheffield, UK) This has to be one of my personal favourite ever first person shooters. I can remember buying ths in either 1997 or 1998 not long after I had completed the truly outstanding DOOM and was hungry for more FPS action and Duke Nukem did very nicely. It plays and looks very similar to DOOM only it is set in a futuristic Los Angeles. But what I personally really loved about Duke Nukem was it's unique and magical sense of humour that sadly I just don't see in that many video games. From the very first level on a roof of a building and Duke says in a wonderfully deep and sincere voice DAM, THOSE ALIEN B*****DS ARE GONNA PAY FOR SHOOTING UP MY RIDE, I just knew that I was going to love this game about murderous aliens that have taken over the city and humans are an endangered species, one of them is the part you play, the witty one liners action hero DUKE NUKEM, a character with a sort of mix of ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, DIRTY HARRY and SNAKE PLISSKEN. It is extremely dark, atmospheric and violent but like I said, it has such a magical sense of humour that made it more than just another FPS. There was one wonderful moment in particular that I remember when you go into a night club and you can look at one of the security cameras and there in the games room a group of aliens are happily having a game of pool without a care in the world, unforgettable. I must also mention the music in this but a specia mention in particular to the main menu music because it is one of my personal favourite ever and just thinking about it almost makes me cry with tears of joy, it is a very traditional arcade rock sound and when this was released on the PLAYSTATION 1 in 1997, this type of video game music was slowly dying in favour of real and professional style music and so when I first played this in either 1997 or 1998, even then I thought it sounded incredibly nostalgic. I have already said why I loved this game but sadly the graphics haven't aged well but it's not the game's fault. If this had been made in the PS2/XBOX/GAMECUBE generation, then it would have aged very well because it was the first generation that got rid of that blocky look and that is why this and most of the PLAYSTATION 1 games have aged badly, it is just one of those this things unfortunately. I would absolutely love this to be remade at some point. If this was made exactly the same but with the latest graphics, then it would make at least one video games fan very happy and remember from the words of Duke Nukem, NOBODY STEALS OUR CHICKS, AND LIVES.

duke was the arnold schwarzenegger of the gaming world (and looks very similar 2 coincidently enough). This is the biggest and baddest of all action heros, this guy doesnt mess around. At the starrt there are 6 "levels" 2 choose from, ranging from duke's first landing on earth, to space etc. I suggest that you try in the order theyr in, as this makes the game fit together better. Whereas in most games, you only get the crappy guns first, on this one, you start off with the half decent pistol, but a mere wall away is a hidden RPG (Rocket proppelled grenade for those unaware) if you cant find it its on the big grey wall at hte begining. This is the only clue I shall give you so as not to ruin one of the greatest games ever made. This is pure unadulterated, violent fun. Dont settle for the lieks of Serious Sam and all them, go for the ultimate hero, go for Duke Nukem 3D you wont regret it. Buy this and in the words of Duke himself "kick ass and chew bubble gum....but I'm all out of gum"
