5 out of 5 stars Burnout 3: Takedown   September 12, 2008
R. Thorpe
When I played Burnout 1, I have to say, it was pretty rubbish. So I traded it in for a newer version; Burnout 3. I was hoping it wouldn't be rubbish as well, but fortunatly, it wasn't at all.
This is perhaps the best Burnout in the series so far, and I'm sure many people would agree. And there are many reasons why:

1. Modes. Apart from World Tour, the main part of the game, there is Race, Road Rage, Time Attack, and perhaps the best of them all, Crash.
In Race, there are 6 cars. You crash, you fall back, and you have to catch up. Simple.
Road Rage, however, is different. Similar to Race, you drive round the circuit, avoiding cars. But, the aim of the game is to kill, or "takedown", the rival cars, untill the time runs out, or your car is wrecked.
Time Attack is simple. As the Crash F.M. DJ (The voice-over) guy says; "Track, car, boost, clock. Geddit?"
And Crash. This is a one-of-a-kind mode. The idea is to plough into a traffic jam at insainly high speeds, creating increadable destruction, and eventually trying to cause the most expencive crash as possible. Hmmm, fun.

2. Cars. There are 7 different classes; Compact, Muscle, Coupe, Sport, Super, Special, and Heavyweights (for use in Crash only). These all have at least 8 cars in each, that can be all unlocked by playing through the game.

3. Extras. Well, where to start. Boost, takedowns, music, game modes, multipliers, and much more.

So, overall, there is just no word for it. EA have literally created a sport of there own; crashing horribly without dieing. And I like it.

2 out of 5 stars Average!   July 2, 2008

I started off playing this game thinking it was much better than Burnout 2. The takedowns and road rage races absolutely blew me away at first. But the more i played this game i realised how repetitive and annoying it became, doing time-trial races for no reason when you'd rather do the damn race itself!!! And with NO MAP or sense of practice or test seesion i was having to do each race about 40 times until i finally got a gold medal.

Overall this is a disappointing and average successor to Burnout 2.

5 out of 5 stars Pure fun - an immensely enjoyable game   February 29, 2008

Single player or two player, both are incredibly enjoyable as you drive cars fast, smashing into your opponents on the way - sound like my idea of fun! For those looking for a less serious driving game than Gran Turismo this is perfect and as a great game for everyone, i'm pretty sure even people who aren't that into videogames will like Burnout.

Taking a closer look at the 'career mode' aspect of the game, this is where you go through the various areas, unlocking new stuff all the time. There's so much to do so expect to be playing for a long time. The graphics are some of the best on the PS2 and you get all kinds of cool lighting and flame effects as you go about one of the major goals in the game - getting more boosts.

You've also got the crash levels which is an awesome concept where your car starts near a busy junction and you have to cause the biggest most spectacular crash possible. This part of the game is truly addictive.

In Burnout you're rewarded for driving dangerously, a practice that makes for a thrill-ride of an experience and as you use your boosts you get faster and faster, only adding to the excitement of the race. All in all, in an immensely satisfying game - perfect for people who like to go through trying to get 100% completion. I love the DJ voiceover's as well and the soundtrack is ace - top tunes from Ash and Franz Ferdinand.

Just as appealing is the multiplayer mode. There's awide variety of game modes to keep you entertained and a lot of the challenge is picking the right car - the balance between speed and weight is vital. This part of the game is great as you can just sit down and blast away with a friend, it gets really competitive as you struggle for the most takedowns and seeing the cars get totally destroyed in slowmo is great fun.

great game, great fun and lasts ages. i'm still racing it now and i've had it for a couple of years i think. i don't think that burnout revenge can possibly improve this that much, yet i haven't gone out and bought it so i can't pass judgement. this is well worth getting if all you've got up to is burnout 2 or below.

5 out of 5 stars 2 words: A Classic!   February 20, 2007

What a game. The key factor that seperates this game from any other car game is that you are encourage to crash and generally cause mayhem!

This game has racing, crashing, multiplayer, road rage and unlockables. All of which are excellant. All of which have great graphics (especially for the PS2) and all of which are great fun and you can literally never get bored of it.

At the moment, and all the time i have had this game, i havan't been able to come up with a fault which it has. What an amazing game! A must.

I suppose one downside, which isn't really a downside is that it's bad for people trying to pass their driving test. BUT WHAT KIND OF A DOWNSIDE IS THAT???!!!!

A must must must!!!! Buy it now!
