4 out of 5 stars Not much of a change   December 28, 2007

I had the last years installment and i was hugely impressed by the quality of the game. It was far better than the frankly awful live series. However 2k8 is practically the same game as last years. The only thing to change are the rosters and some new animations. Nba 2k8 is still a great game but is too similar to last year's game.

Now ive never played a real game of basketball before, but after having fun playing it in school i thought buying a basketball game would be different. I heard from people and the review below that this game is like the pro evo of basketball so i bought it, knowing that the slickness of the game would overide the license absence.

And guess what i was right. NBA 2K8 do have quite alot of licensed teams and all the players names are real. And as for the actual gameplay, in one word, fantastic. Its easy to play and and i got used to the controls instantly. But I will probably find it hard to master.

PS This is coming from a basketball beginner. Also it may be worth you knowing the names of the NBA technique names as this will help you when you read the manual for controls.

4 out of 5 stars NBA 2K8 > NBA Live 08   October 4, 2007

NBA 2K is the Pro Evolution Soccer of basketball. Although Live is slightly more official, has a better player on the cover and it comes out a few weeks earlier; 2K is the better game. It is much more fun to play - association mode is great - you can play an unlimited amount of seasons and do so many things that you can't do in Live. In 2k7, you can train players to improve their stats, go to the draft lottery and pre-draft workouts, the broadcast is far better - when most teams play at home, it shows a bit of their city eg. Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood, Space Needle..., the commentary is much better and so is the gameplay. (I'm sure 2k8 will be even better).

In 2k7, you have a thing called a crib where you have a house which you can fill up with basketball memorobilia such as Pennats, Bobbleheads, Posters, Balls... as well as games like Air Hockey and Darts (which you can play). These are just some of the features on it, I have read many American reviews of 2k8 and they sound great, even better than the 2k7 reviews were last year.

The only downsides are that the soundtrack isn't as good as Live normally, you can't play with international teams (you can on 2K8) and the shooting can be quite frustrating and not as smooth as Live.
Overall Verdict: Get it, it's by far the better of the NBA video games.
