5 out of 5 stars An Essential Expansion   February 28, 2008
Mr. Jason Taylor
If your playing Phantasy Star Universe your more than likely getting cheesed off with not being able to play many of the new missions and not being able to visit players shops and more so your unable to use new S class weapons. Ive been hooked on PSU since the day of release so this expansion was a must. Ive clocked up over 2100 hours of game play which includes the first PSU and standing around in the lobbies chatting or sleeping. Its a great game with many new additions which include weapons, clothes/parts, suvs, rooms, missions. Theres also a casino where you receive one coin a day which you can gamble or save. Once you have enough coins saved up you can exchange them for items, weapons, rooms, or music for your room. If your a fan of Phantasy Stars this is a must. If your still playing the original PSU this is very easy to set up its just a big update. Also bare in mind Sega are still updating this game on a regular basis so theres a lot more to come.

4 out of 5 stars Great fun but serious problems when running on ps3   February 16, 2008
Mr. Mj Girling (Ipswich, Suffolk, England)

Having been a great fan of the orignal Phantasy Star Universe on the PS2 I was hyped that they were going to release a expansion. I got it within the last two days and couldn't wait to start the single player. (I've only ever played the single player so I'll base the review upon that)I was forced to play it on my ps3 because of a broken ps2 and within minutes I ran into a major problem.

Now I know many high profile ps2 games have had serious problems running properly on the ps3 (like Kingdom Hearts 2 and the tron section)but I have never ran into the problem that exists with PSU: AOTL. When creating a game save there is about a 90% that it will be automatically corrupted (in the case with my ps3)and therefore renders it impossible to advance in single player. I'm not saying that it never saves correctly, it does, but happens so rarely that I've already gone back to DMC4.

I'm not saying that Ambition of The Illuminus isn't good, of what I have played of it it is a massive improvement on the original, it has new quests, weapons and enemies to keep even the most die-hard fan pleased. The single player seems more open-ended then it did in the original as from the start I could choose where to go in the Gurhal system and could create my own class for the single player. The point of this review is for two points.
1) - Those fans of the original Phantasy Star Universe are going to love this expansion. It improves on so many areas that were problems in the original.
2) - Do not intend to play this on the ps3 if you want to play the single player. I don't know if it's just my ps3 screwing up but I'll have no way of completing episode 2 of Phantasy Star Universe (unless I buy a new ps2 which considering I'm currently at university will never happen)

This review serves as a warning to those wanting to play PSU on ps3. If it's works fine and never corrupts it's obviously my ps3. But serfing the net I have found that I'm not the only one with this problem.
