Street Fighter who...? August 27, 2007 Angelito Guillermo (London, England) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
forget about Street Fighter or Guilty Gear, if you are into 2D fighting games then this is for you. graphics wise almost comparable to the other SNKP game Neo Geo Battle Coliseum (which i have as well) and the brilliant Capcom vs SNK2 and Marvel vs Capcom2. some of the classic and well-loved SNK characters are here plus bonuses and features (extra charcters, ending, music, etc.) not found on the Arcade version. (though havn't seen one yet.) controls can be a while getting used to but i did liked the "feel" of it having been a SF fan for a long while. this game: enjoyable, sharp & fast-paced. go get one!
2D Fighting Perfected July 24, 2007 Nicholas Lees (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With Capcom having seemingly given up on the Street Fighter franchise, SNK are one of the last developers in the business of creating 2D-fighting games in the classic mould. Their flagship series, the King of Fighters, has been running for over a decade and has now moved onto the Atomiswave platform, resulting in (slightly) spruced up graphics. Don't be fooled however, the graphics and still definitely 'old school', although the great character design gives them a charm of their own. The gameplay is what matters however, and on this front KOFXI delivers. There is a huge variety of characters, each with their own combination of super and desperation moves. Especially good are Tizoc, the Mexican griffon-headed wrestler, and Duck King, the styling break-dancing brawler. The three on three tag battle system keeps things fresh and the 'dream cancel' and 'super cancel' system lets you string together impressive combos. There is even a super-cheap boss at the end, who is infuriating, but very satisfying to beat. Overall, this is a niche game, but one that old-school fighting fans will adore.
