Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
The PC and console worlds combine thanks to man's best friend and a mouse's greatest enemy. Create, pamper and train your favoured furry companions in the latest The Sims 2 expansion.

The lowdown:
After years of trying to create less complex, mini-game orientated spin-offs it seems EA are now keen to see the PC and console The Sims games converge. This new iteration is an expansion pack on the PC but a full price, stand alone game on the consoles. As the name subtly hints the main addition to the game this time round is a number of four-legged friends, plus fish and birds (although it's really cats and dogs that get most of the attention). You can also create your own personalised pet via a complex customisation tool that's just as versatile as the one for humans and on the PC version you can even send your four-legged friend to work!

Most exciting moment:
On the PC this is a perfectly welcome but very narrow expansion. However the full price console version is actually a considerable improvement on the original with an easier-to-use interface, better artificial intelligence and even reduced loading times.

Since you ask:
The next PC expansion pack is called In Season and seems to be roughly analogous to The Sims expansion On Holiday, in that it'll focus on exterior objects and locations. It's not yet clear whether there'll be a console version.

The bottom line:
Finally, The Sims is made to work on consoles!-HARRISON DENT

5 out of 5 stars Much like the Sims 2 but with animals!   March 27, 2008
Mrs. P. Faulkner (Cookstown, Co.tyrone)
I had been looking for this game for ages and when I finally bought it, at first i was confused and fustrated with having to look after my pets and also my sim. But i soon caught on and now i can play it for hours.

Not much is different from The Sims 2, except some items of clothing, hairstyles and so home materials and of course not forgetting the addition of a furry friend to your home.

You can choose from many breeds of cats and dogs and even get mixed breeds through randomize or through breeding ( you can not breed a cat with a dog of course ), you can even give your pet a jacket, shoes and a hat or glasses (much like those annoying few who actually do dress up their animals). Fur colours such as blue, green, pink ect are also on this game, although some have to be unlocked through pet points, achived when your pet has completed a want.

Toys, shelters and clothing can also be unlocked in the town square. Here you can buy things for you pets, get them washed, board them in a kennel when you feel you need a break and also buy new pets and sell your old ones. The more you spend the more the town grows. Also meet new people from the neighbour hood, or if you just feel you need a break away from home with your pet, to help bound and teach it tricks without distraction you can both travel to the square. Maybe you pet will meet another pet and make a new friend or more.

Over all The Sims pets is a must buy for any Sims fans.

4 out of 5 stars Sims 2 Pets - Playstation 2 - Excellent Fun   December 29, 2007

I loved playing the original Sims but couldn't get it to run on my PC after a while, so I was keen to get a similar game I could run from the Playstation without fear of damaging my PC. This game is definitely it.
I've really enjoyed playing it, and had very few problems, so long as I save regularly.
Its not a game that has a definite beginning and end, its just an organic process of enjoying getting characters to interact - which has suited me down to the ground, really.
Some good laughs (especially when characters get abducted by aliens!) and lots of activities to master. It has certainly kept me occupied for hours at a time over many days while I've been recovering from an operation. Recommended - but be warned, it will eat into your social life!!

4 out of 5 stars Good Game. But Sims 2 is better.   November 15, 2007

This Game is very very good. However I don't really like the pets. This is because they are so hard to look after because there is just not enough time. All that happens to them is that they chew things, pee everywhere, make new annoying scoundrels and run away. Even though that is a major proplem I like the humans life. So instead of getting this game I wold advise that everyone should get just the normal 'Sims 2'.
