5 out of 5 stars Great Idea Makes Great Game   June 29, 2008
Mr. J. Arnold
Mortal Kombat Shoalin Monks, is arguably one of the best MK games out.
The game is the 3rd attempt at the story based adventure games based in the MK universe(MK Mytholigies and Speacial Forces) and to that degree its the most successful.

The graphics of this game are really good and detailed ok some might look a little bit choppy but all in all its great to look at, The CG Cutscenes are also really good on this game with the most entertaining opening scene featuring heroes and villains fighting after the first MK Tournament. The environments look good and can be interacted with also the backgrounds are well animated especially the Wu Shi Academy when Barakas men attack you see in the back ground monks fighting with the tarkatans and it looks really cool.

The Story revolves around Lui Kang and Kung Loa and in set around the time of Mortal Kombat 2 events before and up to the mortal kombat 2 tourament, Alot of characters from the series are here in some of the best boss fights in any game of this type. Boss battles include:

Goro
Kintaro
Shang Stung
Baraka
Shao Kahn
Scorpion
Sub Zero
Reptile
And many more

Each boss battle has an individual fatality to pull off with the prompt button sequence.

A range of unique fatalities are also availible throughout the adventure itself to use on minions etc, with unlockable characters such as Scorpion and Sub Zero and 2 player co op mode this game has alot of replay value.
There is even a VS battle mode that really doesnt feel like it should, its like Shoalin Monks very own fight engine in what could just be the same as MKD etc but it's still alot of fun.

The voice acting isnt exactly perfect but it's alot better than deception and Armageddons wannabe voice actors lol.

The controls for this game are very easy to get to grips with and the fatalities are fun and made easy to pull off over n over again. The camera works very well with the game but can get frustrating on co op mode when it zooms out to enable both players to see their characters but thats forgivable.

MK shoalin Monks is a really good game and very good when you play with friends theres alot of great unlockables even Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade.
So it has good replay value and the gme itself is pretty long so overall would recommend this game to anyone if your a MK fan youll love this game if your a casual gamer youll still have loads of fun with this.

Thanks for reading. and check out my other reviews.

5 out of 5 stars The 5 Smoke Missions do not exist!!!   July 24, 2006

This game is cool and it rocks. Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks is for real Mortal Kombat fans!!! But there is one big problem. There is written that one should complete the 5 Smoke Missions to get Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade. The first Smoke Mission: Go to the tombs and destroy the walls to get the hidden fatality. So I went there, through the door with the green sign and destroyed all the walls by throwing the Tarkatas against the walls but nothing happened. I went out and in and the walls were here again. I don't know what to do and I'm sure that this game has has a fault.

5 out of 5 stars Great, but Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade Game does not exist!!!   July 21, 2006

This game is very fantastic. The graphic is good and also the moves of several fighters are good. MK Shaolin Monks includes an exiting story and if you buy this game, you will enjoy it. The worst problem is that there is written to complete all 5 Smoke Missions to get Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade. That's not true. I've completed all 5 Smoke Missions but Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade did not appear. I tried to get MK 2 with a cheat but this game also didn't appear.

I've always been a fan of Mortal Kombat since it first saw light. What's attractive about Shaolin Monks is the amazing fighting style, movements, and speed. it gets tough sometimes and depressing to find your way out. Nevertheless, it does not fail to entertain, and it is certainly an excellent game as far as sound, and graphics are concerned. Game play is nice, but could've been better especially in Boss battles, and single player mode. I am looking forward to the next one...I am sure it'll be as good as this one.
