5 out of 5 stars It's awesome and addictive!   July 19, 2007

This game might not have all the depth and complication some others might, but that's why it's so fantastic! It's addictive, and one of the best games i've ever played or owned. Even after completing a game, you can start again, with the same characters, at more advanced levels, new weapons and generally just keep kicking enemy butt! :P The graphics are great, the story is straightforward and simple, without being boring or dragged out. It's definately one to get addcited to!

2 out of 5 stars A POINTLESS SEQUEL   February 8, 2007

I own the first Champions game and getting this, I expected newer, better things. How wrong I was. The original champions game is a brilliant little hack and slash in the vein of baldurs guides and slight changes to each playable classes there is not one ounce of difference to the first game.
I can see no point in the release of this game - not one. Sequels are supposed to be better, in graphics, story, playabilty and new options or changes.
I strongly recommend getting the first and leave it at that. If you want to do the same things again and again but on a different game by all means buy this.
Indeed to strongly rank up your character to an achievable level where you can tackle the much harder seetings it will take close to 40hrs. But this is the problem why bother you did that in the first game?

So I rank this game above average on fun as its exactly the same as the first game, but overall I can see no point in buying it if you have the first game and just see it as a very poor effort in trying to improve a good game.In my view buy either Game 1 or Game 2 and you'll be happy either way.

2 out of 5 stars very shoddy stuff   May 8, 2006

They claim this game has over '100 hours' of play, 'per character'. The idea of someone playing a rehashed game such as this for over 600 hours is ludicrous.

I'll admit that, being a fan of the true RPG genre, I have a general biased against games that are pure hack n slash.

This game however feels more like a beta version, a working title.

Despite good graphics, class selection and a fun multiplayer mode, the game's repetative nature and non-existent story soon negate these good points.

2 out of 5 stars Hit monster, steal stuff, repeat.   April 3, 2006

For anyone who has played the previous Champions of Norrath, or it's Baldur's Gate cousins, the sequel, Return to Arms, is very familiar ground. Very very familiar ground! For everyone else this game's basic premise is the acquisition of money, weapons and experience by exploring dungeons and smacking up the hapless mooks within. It's incredibly repetitive but also addictively compulsive. Once you're hooked on the process of obtaining ever increasing rewards you'll soon find that you are enjoying yourself despite the one tone gameplay.
The problem is that despite being the sort of anally retentive gamer who likes to collect every last gold coin I found myself growing bored of this game incredibly quickly. Most sequels are lazily produced affairs but RTA takes the biscuit. With recycled environments, characters and NPCS you'd be hard pressed to spot the differance between this and its predecessor. There are two new player classes to try out, namely the frenzied Vah Shir (catman) Berserker and the devious Iksar (lizardman) Shaman. The other classes have received new advances and there are supposedly new weapons but it all stinks of a rushed job. The biggest casualty though has to be the plot. The original game's story was wafer thin but after hours of playing RTA I am still none the wiser as to what my motivation is other than becoming the vaguely defined Champion of Norrath. It's hard to push yourself to trawl through yet another uninspired level without at least a semblence of a goal.
It's not all bad though. The statistics behind the scenes that run the show are all well balanced and the option of 4 player multiplayer and online play makes for hectic fun with your mates but in a genre which is supposed to be based on the boundaries of the imagination this game shows just how bland RPGs have gotten in recent years.

5 out of 5 stars Great RPG   February 21, 2006

this is without dought one of the best RPG's i have ever played or purchased the graphics are good though could do with a slight improvement, the controls are easy to grasp, the gameplay is good though more interaction of your champion through speech would be good and now the best part lastability i have had this game for 3 months now and still havent finished it on the first difficulty level its a challenge and will hook your from the start unless u get stuck but its all good on this game the characters are good but what i dont understand is that with such characters such as teh wood-elf and dark-elf only the female know jow to speak properly random but oh well back to the characters all of them are good depends on you yourself (the game player) on what you choose all in all a great game which will last for ages keep you interested and is a good bit of fun with your mates in 4 player mode!
