2 out of 5 stars Spyro: A Hero's Tail   May 27, 2008
Mr. D. Lakins (UK Nottingham)
I remember a time, when the third Spyro game was coming out, I was thinking, do we really need another Spyro game? My feelings then were no, and now with Hero's Tail, my feelings are confirmed.
I get somewhat nostalgic thinking of the original Spyro, running around as a smart-ass purple dragon, burning and head-butting stuff. One of the first playstation game's I played, I loved it to pieces. With each sequel though, it's the exact same thing, done worse, with a few extra, unnecessary features.

And it's the same again with Hero's Tail, the 5th in the series. Essentially it's a half-arsed platformer that isn't quite as imaginative as the original, but with a ton of other things just shoved in for show. For example, learning new skills, four playable character and some linear free roaming. But rather than adding to the experience, these things take away from it, complicating what should be a nice simple platformer for a younger audience.
Some of the fun from the original game is still here, running around head-butting things as a dragon being part of it, but on the whole this is irritating, unnecessary, and should be avoided.

I am a huge fan of the Spyro series and I was so eager to get my hands on this game when I found out it had been released. It took some time to find a copy as they had all seemed to have sold out in my area. I finally found one and was excited to play it. I loved the first level but after playing through it 3 times due to a save progress problem, I grew tired of it quickly. It took me several months before I became interested in it once again to replay level one in order to see if the save progress problem was due to a faulty memory card. I was very displeased to find out it wasn't a problem with the memory card but rather with the game itself. If the save progress problem had not happened, I would have rated this game highly and also considered it to be the very best of the Spyro series. Believe me, I am a hardcore fan of the series but if asked about my experience with the game, I'd have to say it was disappointing.

4 out of 5 stars Great but problems saving!   October 30, 2006

This was a great game! My only issue is with the autosave feature which in my case did not work properly causing me to have to re-start the game from scratch four times! I looked around on the Internet and found this to be a common problem. I made sure that I manually saved and it seemed to be ok.

4 out of 5 stars super spyro   August 8, 2005

i loved the ps one spyro games and loved this one too. the graphics arepretty good if a little "loose". the idea of the game is good adn i like the fact that you dont have to get a certain amount of treasure to complete a level. i love the new playable characters like blink, sgt bird, hunter and sparx.

the only thing i dont like about spyro a heros tail is that the map is hard to see exactly where you have been because spyro has such a big circle around him.

on the whole the game is an excellent buy and i would reccomend it. it is better than all the other games and definitely the last one. so what are you waiting for, go out and buy it!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars GOOD BUT CANT COMPARE   July 17, 2005

I think this is one of my best games, and I also think that Spyro is the cutest living organism on the planet. It is a wonderful game however and mostly very easy so if you like hard games then I dont suggest this. I have seen various other reveiws from spyro collectors all saying other spyro games are better and that this is the worst. I pesonally think that this is a wonderful game BUT I have only recently become a collector so I can not compare this with other spyro games. I have also looked at other reveiws from different spyro games saying that they were very good I still think this is an amazing game. .
