Amazon.co.uk Review
The previous two incarnations of This is Football have failed to break the footie-game hegemony enjoyed by EA's FIFA and Konami's ISS, despite being a very playable hybrid of the two series. TIF 2002 may finish higher up the video-game league this season though, as it's the first of the big Xmas football games to be released and soccer-loving PS2 owners in desperate need of a fix will seize gratefully on the first decent representation of the beautiful game this year.

In gameplay terms not much has changed since the last version; This is Football is still a fast-flowing, end-to-end arcade romp rather than a considered simulation, though there are hidden strategic depths to discover as you negotiate the four difficulty settings. Strategies and goal scoring moves learnt from TIF 1 & 2 still work--the sprint down the touchline followed by an in-swinging cross to the far post usually results in a goal (provided you have a half-way decent striker).

The new TIF also offers real player names (no Michael Orin nonsense) and likenesses--though this becomes less accurate as you descend down the leagues (yes, this time you can play as Port Vale!) and the players become more obscure. There are a limited number of stadia offered, but these too are lovingly realised. In fact, on the eye-candy front, TIF will be hard to beat this year.

The slick presentation and accessible gameplay coupled with the wealth of leagues available (Jumpers For Goalposts is back) should ensure that, for one season at least, the race for the video-game championship should be a three-horse race. At the very least TIF 2002 qualifies for Europe. --Michael Bartley

5 out of 5 stars games plus online number one for games players   July 26, 2005

Im not one that gets a lot from the net. however games plus is the best online store for games with the best prices. I would say to anyone buying games online to stick with the best and games plus is the best by far.

Just about every single team you ever wanted, lots of weather conditions, stadiums and referees makes a great game. There's plenty of options or special moves like shimmies, step overs and even the old fashion dive. Theres plenty of shooting styles and plenty of tackles to be done. Theres plenty of game play and difficulty levels as well as plenty of cups including a chance to build your own team. The game is one that you just don't get bored of playing, no matter how long you have it for.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game But Can Be Frustrating!!!!!!   August 18, 2003

This is footy is a good game to buy for any football fan. It is very realistic but can be frustrating. Taking on a player is very difficult and running towards goal normally involves you getting tackled but that is what makes it realistic. One of the most frustrating parts of the game is that when an attacking player is running through on goal the defenders usually catch up to you and make a challenge. So the trick of this game is to play through balls using triangle this enables players to run on to the ball and score. Diving is a good and new option on this football game. You can dive by pressing R2 but make sure it is at the right time because you can get booked by the ref for a delibrate dive if you dive at the wrong time. Also when your defence is under attack you can use L1 for a team-mate assist when you do not have the ball. This puts the striker under pressure and he often loses the ball. Another great thing is that you can create teams. We created our local football team and we can play against the likes of Real Madrid. Cup and league seasons must also be won for completion of the game on all dificulties (almost impossible) you need to win every cup and every league on all dificulties. For a tip win everything on ameatur first. To get the All Time 22 team of all legendry superstars such as Cruyff, Maradona and Puskas you need to win the superteam championship on world class difficulty to get this team, WARNING!! this is very hard and will take you time. But the problem is you can only be Europe all stars. To win the Leicester square park pitch with lamposts as goalposts you must win the Euro cup on World class difficulty we did this with Holland because they have in our opinion good players such as Davids,Van Nistelrooy,Stam and Van Der Sar. It is very difficult so this may take time too. Overall this is a fantastic game because it is very hard you feel great when you win something. Richard Ballout aged 13 and Jack Cassidy aged 12

The most realistic Football game on the market!
(In my opinion better even than Pro Evolution).
Smooth game play, brilliant weather conditions, great Stadia, amazing cut scenes and players you actually recognise.
Buy it, Enough said!!

1 out of 5 stars Great Game!!   February 28, 2002

I think this is a great game! it has most of the teams around the world, but reason I give it 4 not 5 stars is that it does not have Arsenal! Not that I support them but it is nice to have all teams and the 2nd reason is that it does not have the UEFA or Champions league one! Also some kits are not as accurate as thay should be, Bayern for example, it has never been red, always maroon but other that I think it is a really good game, it has had time and effort put in to it!! Well Done to the produces!!!!!
