    Amazon.co.uk Review
The Dark Knight returns in the first game to do him justice in his more than 20 year history in video games. Not based on any specific comic book or movie it takes all the best ideas and visuals from all of Batman's many incarnations to create a unique spin on one of pop culture's greatest icons.

Arkham Asylum becomes the backdrop for Batman's most dangerous challenge
Killer Croc has never looked more imposing or been more dangerous
Batman must discover the deadly secrets behind The Joker's masterplan
Stalk the minor criminals like prey and strike from the dark when they least expect it

The entire game takes place within Arkham Asylum, where The Joker and his allies have overtaken the facility and set a trap for Batman. This is no simplistic beat 'em-up though, with Batman forced to prove his status as the world's greatest detective with a number of complex forensic style puzzles.

When it does come to combat though you must still use your cunning as much as your fists, as you stalk unaware enemies and distract them with the bodies or screams of their cronies. With believable physics, superb graphics and a serious adult tone this is more than just another superhero tie-in.

    Key Features

    • Rogue's gallery: Battle all of Batman's greatest foes, including The Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc.
    • Final Knight: Gain experience from fights and puzzles to improve and add to Batman's abilities via a role-playing game style skill tree that lets you customise the Dark Knight as you see fit.
    • Dynamic duo: Target the most dangerous foes from the shadows with a special takedown move and then move in to stun or attack opponents with the game's intuitive combo system.
    • Detective comics: Batman must use his brain as well as his brawn, with CSI style puzzles solved by an array of bat-gadgets including a multi-use interactive visor.
    • Animated avenger: An original story written by comic book and Batman: The Animated Series legend Paul Dini - plus Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman and Mark Hamill as The Joker.

    About the Developer: Rocksteady Studios

Only found founded in 2004, this London based developer's first game was the well received first person shoot 'em-up Urban Chaos: Riot Response for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Their first game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (and PC) is comic book license Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Great game, everything is perfect. You can find the Dark Knight of the Christopher Nolan masterpieces with the faithful comics background.
Gameplay is fully enjoyable, the story is very good, and there are plenty of side tasks to do!
A game all the bat's fans and who doesnt know him should buy!

5 out of 5 stars dark and creepy - proper batman   August 27, 2010

Long gone are the days of batman & robin running around in tight spandex, i was a little late buying this game didnt think it would be my cup of tea, but after playing the demo on the PSN store i was hooked and had to grap a copy, for anyone who has grown up with batman all there is alot of reference to lots of charactors and solving the riddlers challanges are alot of fun, but best of all its taken from the grapic novel of the same name and doesnt dissapoint! a really brilliant game and on my wishlist will be the next installment Batman: Arkham City!!!

Before Batman:Arkham Asylum came out, I thought it would be as bad as all the other super hero games, but it wasn't . The game has everything you could wish for. It has brilliant graphics, the combat is so much fun, theres so many toys and tools you can play around with in the game. There's so many other things to type down. Batman has to be one of the best games that I've ever played, I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars The best batman game to date!   May 13, 2010
B. Cousins (Essex, England)
I have played Batman games since owning my first one back in the early 90's, I played the demo of this and was instantly wanting to buy the full game. The game is very true to the atmosphere and style of Batman and has the voice talents from the cartoon series of the late 90's, Mark hamill etc... The game is very dark, the scenery is well designed and shows Batman returning the Joker to Arkham, he is looking quite fatigued and then he has to deal with the Joker taking over Arkham and tries to stop him. Along the way we meet many old enemies and have to battle them, there are many tools to get this done, the trusty batarang, and also some newly developed items. There is an opportunity to utilise scenery too in taking down enemies, I won't go into too much detail as it will spoil some the surprises, but one that has been seen is the use of explosive gel. This can be applied to certain walls and then detonated, causeing the wall to fall onto enemies or just for looking for secret areas.
There is also the detective vision, which is when Batman utilises a special filter for his batmask and this allows you to see e.g. weaknesses in walls, you can see bodyheat from enemies. And the combat system is one of the best I have played, you can pull off fight combinations with not too much effort, you do not need to learn complicated sequences. There is also an experience system which allows you to buy upgrades as you go along, be it better armour or attacks, which help for the harder sections of the game. You also have to try and decrypt riddles along the way left by, guess how, the Riddler.
Fighting the many henchmen along the way isn't a simple walk up and tap button fest, you do need to think how you will attack them as a lot are armed with guns and you will die if you just wade in. There is scenery that you can make use of, e.g. gargoyles that you can grapple up to and wait for the right moment, or simply jump off and glide silently down then boot them in the face.
There is also reply value as you most likely won't collect all the riddles on your first run, or when you have completed the game you can carry on playing so as to find them.
The cutscenes are well made and the story is well in keeping with the Batman genre and is well scripted and acted out, it is gritty and dark as the Batman stories always were.

For the price, it is well worth it, and you won't be sorry adding this to your collection. It is a shame they brought the game of the year edition out so long after as that includes extra content that can be bought off the playstation network and the game is played in 3D which sounds interesting, I may buy that too when it is sufficiently cheap hehe
There is also quite a few downloads that are free for this edition off the playstation network, so happy gameing!
I cannot wait for Arkham 2!!!
