5 out of 5 stars Hard but simply great!!   July 31, 2004

I have recently got this game with the headset and got into it straight away. There were loads of commands to get used to but soon i was yelling them all into the headset and thinking carefully about my tactics, silently mowing down the enemies. Soon i realised that there was a high level of realism and that you could be on full health one minute, then suddenly you would have caught a hot one to the head and are lying dead, but this is not exactly a bad thing, it just creates a higher level of atmosphere and tension while making you think very carefully about you approach to a larger bunch of enemies.

There are a wide varity of locations in the game meaning that you have to change your tactics for every level to suit the terrain. This adds depth to what could become a repettitive title.

Your team all handle very well, so you will easly be moving your team to good tactical positions to provide cover or lob a flashbang. The headset works well although some commands may be harder for the headset to recognise. You can also use the controller to issue commands although i reccomend that you get the headset because it really helps you get into the game.

I am hoping to get my PS2 hooked up online soon and cannot wait to play this online, there are multiple game modes for up to 16 players, it will be great.

I really reccomend you buy this game, because it gives you a great simulation of warfare, whether you like stealth or action. No war game will beat this until SOCOM 3.

SOCOM II is an incredible sequel to its counterpart, SOCOM I. The AI is much more advanced, the game is controlled through the headset, and the levels are much more challenging. I 100% reccommend this to ANYONE and EVERYONE.

this is a must buy for shooting game lovers...although it's much better online this such a good game but you have to have broadband and then it just brings out the fun if you play online...get the usb headset as you can command your team either offline and online

5 out of 5 stars The Best Multiplayer Experience Ever.....   May 20, 2004

WARNING - Do not buy this game unless your PS2 is online. This game should not be bought for it's single player game. Although the single player game is enjoyable in places and can keep you entertained for a few days, it just feels like a second-rate version of Conflict Desert Storm. However, despite the slightly disappointing single player game, this is possibly the best game for the PS2 at the moment. The reason for this being that the online mode is sheer perfection.

With up to 16 players at one time you would expect an excessive amount of lagging by other players. However lagging is often just a rarity and does not affect the beauty of the online play. The game has 20+ maps, which are all brilliant in their own way, differing in environment, objectives and texture. There is truly no experience like teaming up and talking with 7 people over the world, trying desperately to fend off an attack from 8 other players, with no idea where they will come from, what their plan is or what gun they intend to use to riddle you with bullets. Everytime you kill an enemy, a feeling of satisfaction takes over and everytime you die you want the next round to start so you can cast your revenge on the stupid sod who shot you.

The online community boasts a variety of options, such as the clan creation system. Here you can form an alliance with a number of other players, who you can meet up with to face other clans. This leads to a more personal form of teamwork, where you grow as a group and develop plans and strategies that you couldn't with the random person you met 5 minutes ago. The ranking system works a treat, recording every kill, death, headshot, suicide you have done and giving you your rank out of all the SOCOM players in the world. The clans are also ranked, leading to you and your friends trying desperately, striving to be the best clan in the world.

This all adds up to be a truly amazing experience, which anyone with a PS2 should witness. If you havn't got your PS2 online, then this is your reason to. For only 60 you can buy the network adaptor along with SOCOM 2 and the USB headset and this will lead to hours of enjoyment. This is a definite must-have and you should not hesitate to buy it.

5 out of 5 stars It's so hard!   April 27, 2004

This game is amazing. Simple as that. The graphics are crisp and theaction is fast. Even during heavy online moments there is no lag. Thesingle player missions are very tough but rewarding and the headset worksreally well, giving your computer controlled teammates oral commands workswithout error almost all the time. Playing this game online is quitesimply a joy to do, although talking to other players as you play is quitean odd thing. Play it, play it a lot and when you consider yourself to begreat at it, go online and get taught a lesson in how to play!
