The Don!!! November 25, 2008 W.T.A (england) Being a big fan of the movies and a big video game fan this game was an absolute must, though I did put it off for a long time, believing that a move like the excellent Godfather was sacred and should not be turned into a video game. I'm so glad that I finally relented. The graphics are pretty nice- maybe not up to the standard of some PS3 games, but most definitely nice to look at. Being able to design and name your own mobster was a neat touch, and there is plenty you can do with him. I went for a portly, moustachioed look- just trying to keep it real. The selection of outfits are very nice too. But how does it play? Well, if you are familiar with the GTA games, you will pick up the controls no problem. Use of the Syxaxis is brilliant. Grab someone and flick your controller forward to land a lovely headbutt. The foes and civilians bruise and bleed too. Very nice. The controls really are simple- the gameplay topnotch. There are a few glitches in the system- cars come out of nowhere, people disappear into walls- dramatic music plays at full blast whilst you are having a quiet word with someone, and the online missions aren't particularly great. But these are minor faults when you consider how great this game really is. I have purchased far too many games for the PS3, but this is the one that I keep coming back to. MGS4 has been put to one side, so I can blast my way through this beauty. With a lot of great voice-over work from some of the original cast members, and the original score playing sweetly in the background as you shake down a store-owner for some protection money- I find it hard to fault the game. Some nice bonus videos round the whole package off nicely. Why this game is not more readily available I am not sure- but it most definitely should be. Get it... or else.
Brilliant!!! Non stop Fun!!! October 30, 2008 Sergey Grechishkin 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wow! I was sitting in my bed playing on my PSP. There was a knock at the door, my father arrived from his work trip. He handed me a packet from HMV. In side was The Godfather game. I took it up to my room, read the manual. I was riveted. You were a real character in a real world getting men to work for you, extorting shops, killing mobsters, driving cars madly. All in one game this is amazing. Of course it was a bit easy (I completed it 7 times becoming Don of NYC every time.) Amazing, BUY NOW!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely fantastic! August 28, 2008 G. Nisbet (Glasgow, UK) As a bit of a FPS fan I took something of a gamble with The Godfather and what a gamble it was! I've since racked up 50 hours of gameplay to complete the entire game. Every mission, every favour, every hit. The journey was incredible. Slapping a butcher around demanding a slice of his profits was just hilarious. Throwing hookers out of windows (using Sixaxis motion sensing no less!), beating people to death with a golf club, throwing corrupt cops off rooftops. This game has everything. I couldn't stop playing it till I had taken over every business in NYC. If you have a PS3 and are looking for something different then get this - just expect a few late nights as it's hard to stop playing it. Top drawer entertainment.
One of the best PS3 games August 15, 2008 Nikko (Wirral) The Godfather is one of the best games around combining elements of first person shooters, hand to hand combat, driving (New York's quite big) and plenty of sub-plots (mainly assassinating enemies in a variety of different ways). You start off as a mere hired hand but can progress all the way up to Don of NY. A large portion of the game is dedicated to taking over various districts from rival families but you also get to play out much of the story from the film (including the horse's head in a bed bit) You are reasonably free to make your own way around the city and can follow the main story at your own pace. There are plenty of upgrades to your character, his skills and weaponry. The Don's Edition is similar to the original but with a few more missions, enemy family haunts plus you can also hire friendly thugs to assist you and drivers if you want to save time driving. It also saves & loads quicker. I've played many games on various formats over the years & have to say that this is one of the most addictive and rewarding games to date. They have obviously put a great deal of time & effort into the game & have then face-lifted it with this edition. It's one of only a few games that I've played a few times right through & it's a very large game so takes a while. The only word of caution is that it is can be quite violent in places - definitely 18 rated. If you want a game that you can't refuse, this is it.

If you love the Godfather and any other ace gangsta films you will love this game. Take down rival gangs, extort, blackmail, bomb and kill, all the things we can't get away with in the real world.
