Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell: After the last game became the best selling launch title for the Xbox 360, Activision aren’t wasting any time with the follow-up as you do you bit to help out with the Normandy breakout and the liberation of France. The lowdown: Despite the new digit in the title this isn’t so much a sequel to Call of Duty 2 on the 360 and PC as it is Call of Duty: Big Red One on the PS2, Xbox and GameCube. It’s by the same developer (Treyarch), there’s no PC version and it doesn’t feature three distinct armies, but instead a recreation of the Normandy breakout. That’s not to suggest it’s short on new ideas though with much larger levels than ever before and far more vehicles to control (particularly in the Battlefield like multiplayer mode). There’s also a new Resident Evil 4 style quick time event system for hand-to-hand combat where you have to hit specific buttons to sock it to the Nazi hordes. Most exciting moment: It may seem a bit shallow to go on about the game’s explosions but really, there’s never been anything as realistic as the fireworks in this game. The way the smoke moves is particularly amazing, even drifting in the wind or dispersing after a second nearby explosion. Since you ask: Although Activision has confirmed nothing yet they have hinted that original Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward are working on their own sequel, primarily for the PC. When it will come out and whether it will be translated to the next generation consoles is currently unknown. The bottom line: The best WII first person shooter looks to be getting even better. Call of Duty 3 - Online Connection Problems July 3, 2010 BigBoy (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While COD3 offers decent though not outstanding graphics on PS3, enemy AI and general standard of gameplay leaves quite a lot to be desired. I bought COD3 mainly for its online team/co-ops/competitive gaming, since COD4 onwards do have excellent online gaming. So far online gaming simply has not been an option on COD3: when selecting multiplayer mode, the game simply states: "Could not connect. Please check your network hardware and cables to ensure they are connected properly." Then it opts the player back to single player mode or system software. Online gaming is totally perfect for all my other PS3 games, so this must be a COD3 software glitch - either that or the online gaming network for COD3 is simply no longer supported. So COD3 is not recommended unless you only want single player, and even then it is nothing special.
For all COD fans May 7, 2010 James C. Mulvaney (Bolton) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great shooting game, long missions so it is NOT a game you'll spend a fortune on and play for 10 minutes. can glitch at times but great online play but no online parties.overall a great game PS3 name: jmulvaney
A great game March 23, 2010 SD (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before I start this review I'd like to point out that I'm Mrs.Davies son rather than Mrs.davies herself.
If it were possible to rate the game to be 4 and a half star then I would have done. The controls are simple, the gameplay is capteveting and it's basicly your usual COD game.I have not put five stars because of three things.
1. There is far to much of a gap between normal and hard difficulty. Anyone used to playing at normal difficulty would be utterly bowled over when the difficulty is set to hard.
2.The playstation version has no split screen mode so you can't play with your friends when you all meet up. You have to go through the tedious process of setting up an internet game.
3.Weapons are far to easy to use. If you shoot somebody in the hip it will kill them immediately. If you shoot them twice in the foot they also drop dead.
Though this game is imfinitly better than COD finest hour (which I would rate as 1 star), and the controls better than on COD 2 big red one, it isn't perfect. But then again... I'm yet to encounter a game that is. However, I just ordered modern warefare 2 and everyone says that that's a great game.
not so good March 19, 2010 Babos Andras (Budapest, Hungary) I play the first 7 levels of this game and it isn't very bad, but i have some problems with it.
-The difficulty setting aren't well balanced. On easy i died 2-3 times in the 7 levels, on medium i died 1-200 times.
-the gameplay is a bit monoton, always kill fast everybody and run for the next cover to prevent respawn.
But it also gave me lot of fun to play so it is worth the relative cheap value (~5000HUF) on the other side i won't buy other similar CoD titles.
Call of Duty 3 February 6, 2010 T. J. Harrison (Douglas IOM) The game is interesting, informative and rewarding in the action, graphics and realistic goals. My recommendation is to go straight into the normal level of play and above all let patience be your watchword. The Call of Duty series is definitely the best in the whole genre of WW2 shoot em ups. I bought this on Amazon after completing Call of Duty World at War, I simply had to have more of the same!
