Product Description
Included Game system Dualshock wireless controller AC power cord Audio/Video cable USB cable As DVD playback made the PlayStation 2 more than just a game machine, hefty multi-media features make the PlayStation 3 Slim an even more versatile home entertainment machine. 32% smaller, 36% lighter and consuming 34% less power than the originals, this latest edition of the PlayStation 3 has been completely redesigned for a much more streamlined feel. Features such as video chat, internet access, digital photo viewing, and digital audio and video will likely make it the central component of your media set-up. Still, it is first and foremost a powerful gaming console. Under the Hood The PS3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That makes the PlayStation 3 40 times faster than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience. This console also provides for a sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. A pre-installed 120 GB hard disc drive allows you ample room to save games as well as download content from the internet. Blu-Ray Is the New Way Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity, combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card, promises mind-blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. The PS3 will al

The best entertainment hub for all the family. July 23, 2010 R. Lewis (UK) Watch DVDs, play games with amazing graphics, put BBC iplayer on your telly, stream video from your laptop to your tv, store your music, play against millions of other gamers without an annual subscription, watch blu-rays in 1080p....the possibilities are endless. Fun for all the family and very good value. It's definitely one of the best things I have bought over the years.
PS3- worth it with exclusives. June 22, 2010 StopGap (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first one I got had a dodgy heatsink & fan or something because it was in danger of burning through the desk as soon as it was switched on.
The replacement was fine though, much cooler, much quieter and I'm 100% happy with it. Amazon were nice enough to respond quickly to my problem, so kudos there.
If you're shopping for a PS3 try and get one of the newer model slims-
CECH-2103A or B. The 1 is the important bit.
Excellent console with a few niggles! June 22, 2010 Shawn P. Golby (Essex,UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I finally took the plunge and bought the ps3 slim( i already have an xbox 360,but was interested in some of the exclusive games like wipeout and little big planet and the forthcoming gran turismo 5) I went for this 120 gb model ,120 gb being plenty for me as i only plan to have some music and games on there.Very easy to set up straight out the box ,apart from the wireless internet this really tried my patience,Ive owned psps and ds's and they were so easy to link up to my wireless router this ps3 werent having any of it ,after 2 days of trying everything ,i gave up and bought a wired cable ,not as ideal but at least im online phew!the controller is very nice a lot lighter than i expected (being used to xbox controller),my second niggle was the charging cable you get is far too short ,id like to have my controller charging as i play on my sofa but being this short i have to sit on my hard wood floor close to the tv.Overall id definately recommend this machine, better than xbox? maybe graphics wise they look the same to me,some of the ps3 games i played were only outputting 720p ,while xbox is the full 1080.Online I think microsoft may just have the edge although the playstation network is free.
Excellent bit of kit! June 20, 2010 Matthew Culley (England, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was thinking of buying a games machine for some time and eventually decided on the PlayStation 3. What persuaded me in the end was the multi-functionality of the PS3. As well as game-playing, you get a Blu-ray player (and DVD, CD etc) and internet browser. This may make it easier to persuade the other half that this is an essential purchase!
So far I have been impressed. Its very easy to setup: I attached it to the TV with a HDMI cable, logged it into my wireless network, although you can attach an ethernet cable if needed and after tapping in a few details it was up and running. The device looks great and doesn't take up much room.
The PS3 comes with one wireless controller (two would have been better as they're not the cheapest things, although I guess it keeps the overall cost of the unit down) and various cables. Irritatingly, it does not come with a HDMI cable. On HDMI cables, be careful if you go to a high-street store as you could pay up to £30. I recommend looking around as you can find much much cheaper ones, with no apparent difference in quality.
Game play so far is good. The graphics are of an excellent standard, and the controller works perfectly. The Blu-ray discs I have played so far have done so with no hitches. You can get a remote control for the PS3 which would be useful when playing Blu-rays.
Using the World Wide Web is straigtforward, although entering URLs with the controller is a little cumbersome. You can buy a keypad that attaches to the controller though.
Overall a great product. If you are thinking of buying s Blu-ray player, but wondering whether to justify it, consider the PS3, as you get a great deal more!
